The marmoset monkey emerges as an increasingly promising model for fundamental as well as clinical brain research. It is already central to large and rapid international development with initiatives such as the Japan’s Brain/MINDS project and the US investments through the National Primate Research Centers. The Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone is one of the leading primate research Center in France and is closely following this evolution. Since 2019, several INT teams gather their competences for investigating the central nervous system of marmoset monkeys, from molecular to cognitive levels. This collaborative effort aims at establishing Marseille as a leading center for preclinical and basic brain research in marmoset monkeys.
The Marmobrain Workshop is the second edition of the international conference we organize in Marseille, to present state-of-the-art and exciting methodological and scientific developments in marmoset neurosciences. This year, the Workshop will also be an opportunity to inaugurate a new animal facility operated by the Mediterranean Primate Research Center (UAR2018, MPRC). This modern infrastructure, financed by CNRS, will be entirely dedicated to both biomedical research and training programs on animal research. It will be largely open to external teams to run neuroscience projects on non-human primates and designing or testing new treatments for major neurological and psychiatric diseases.
Over two full days, we will hear about new scientific advances along 3 scientific topics: (1) Manipulating neural networks in the marmoset brain, (2) Social Behavior and (3) Imaging marmoset networks. 10 international scientific leaders will present their most recent research project. We thank them for their participation and wish you all an exciting conference.
